River Chavon Special- 1/2 day Jungle Tour
Explore the Rio Chavon and the local Culture
Available for passengers of Carnival Ships, Mein Schiff2 and AIDA
This excursion explores the River Chavon and its direct surroundings. The river meanders through a beautiful gorge, the river banks are grown with dense tropical jungle. We will cruise on a traditional river boat to YucaYena, our Jungle farm on the banks of the river. We lunch at the farm and relax in the Jacuzzi. If you dare you can touch the snake during the fruit trail.
You also can join the Canoe Adventure. Guided by 'Tarzan' we go deep into the jungle. Fun guaranteed. For the less active: you can relax on the farm in the jacuzzi and soak up the jungle atmosphere. On the way back Tarzan will demonstrate the famous Tarzan swing and you can try it yourself....
Itinerary:
After a short drive from the cruise port (10 minutes) or the hotel (20
minutes from Bayahibe)
we will reach the River Chavon. We will board the traditional
boat and cruise
stream up through the gorge of this beautiful river. The tropical jungle can be
seen on the banks.
The block busters Apocalypse Now, Rambo 3 and Anaconda were filmed here.
We will reach YucaYena, our riverside Jungle farm. After a
traditional welcome
drink we will give more information about the Taino lifestyle. We will explain the
origins of the
famous "Mama Juana" and you can taste small Yucca dishes prepared in the traditional
Taino way.
Yucca (also known as Cassava and Manioc) was the principal crop of the Taino. It was
so important to
the survival of the people that the Taino communities were called Yucayeques,
meaning the "yucca growers".
The colonizers took Yucca all over the world; it is now the staple food of around
500 million people and
the main source of income for some of the world's poorest farmers.
Those who want can join our fruit trail. The trail takes 20-30
minutes and we show
you the typical dry tropical jungle. We will show you the various fruits and
vegetables the Tainos
Indians gathered from the land.
This is followed by a traditional Dominican "barbacoa" lunch,
with pork chops,
chicken wings, traditional Dominican rice and various salads.
After the lunch you can participate in our canoe adventure to a
little side river of the Rio Chavon.
We go deeper into the jungle and have to navigate through hanging lianas and around
fallen trees. We might
see the fresh water turtles here.
You can relax in our jacuzzi, high above the river!! You can
retreat to one of the
hammocks or try your luck with fishing from the fishing platform on the river
bank... At lot to do in the Jungle....
After a stay of 4 hours we'll board the river boat again and
float back to the civilization.
On the way back it is time for some animation. Our staff will demonstrate the
Bachata and the Merengue and if
you want you can join them.... 40 minutes later we'll arrive at the 'represa' and
the buses will be ready for
the transfer back to your resort or to the cruise port.
Deposit Required:
Due to a high number of 'No Shows' we are forced to ask for
a deposit with each booking of Carnival passengers. The deposit is 40% of the
amount due,
payable through paypal. You will receive the payment details together with your
booking confirmation.
In case you notify us of a cancelation 24 hrs or longer before we will refund
the deposit. The deposit will also be refunded if the ship for some reason
doesn't port in La Romana or if SeavisTours for some reason (e.g. weather) needs
to cancel the excursion.

Photo Service Tour:
Our photographer will make
photo's of the day and you can request for a private photoshoot.
At the end of the day you can buy a CD with more then 200 photos. The costs are
us$40 (or equivalent in Euro), payable in cash directly to the photographer.
