Santo Domingo - Private Tour
Discover the culture of the Dominican Republic
Follow the tracks of Columbus into the new world
Santo Domingo is the craddle of the new world. You don't want to discover the magnificant old city in a large group with a number of different nationalities. We offer Santo Domingo as a PRIVATE tour from 2 persons to maximal 7 persons. And we will make sure you will get a guide that speaks fluently english (or the language you prefer). Only in this way you can get the most out of your excursion. We will pick you up in a comfortable mini-bus at your hotel or from our office and take you through La Romana and on the new highway to Santo Domingo. The route you take and the attractions you visit will be discussed with you. More time to shop, more time for the history.... etc. You tell your guide....
Below you'll see a possible itinerary for the day:
Tres Ojos
The first stop of this full day is at Los Tres Ojos, a subterranean cave and lake system. The “three eyes” refers to three lagoons with crystal clear water of different depths, surrounded by stalagmites and stalactites, or, where daylight hits, walls of tropical plants. The Taino Indians lived here before the colonization of the area.
Parque ColónCasas Reales
After the visit to Los Tres Ojos, we will visit the capital of the Dominican Republic with its remarkable Old Town: the “Zona Colonial”. The UNESCO World Culture Heritage site, is famous for its alleys, historic houses and churches, old trees, and shops and stalls which paint the colourful story of the colonization of the Dominican Republic.

We start our sightseeing tour through the Zona Colonial at Parque Colón, the traditional centre of old Santo Domingo paying tribute to Cristóbal Colón (Christopher Columbus) with a statue in his likeness. We visit the Cathedral Santa Maria la Menor, the Ozama Fortress, the Pantéon Nacional, the museums in Casas Reales and the Alcázar de Colón, just to name the best known. We will also highlight several historic buildings on our tour. After the guide provides the history of the people, settlement and culture of Santo Domingo, you will have free time to stroll “El Conde”, the premier pedestrian shopping street in the Zona Colonial, followed by lunch in a cozy restaurant serving typical Dominican fare with beverage and coffee.

At the end of a long and interesting day, we return to Bayahibe.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Note that no bare arms or legs are permitted into the churches that we will be touring. Zip off pants or a longer skirt work well, and a light sweater or shawl can be worn over bare arms.
