Two Island
Excursion
Saona
& Catalinita
Excursions
to the Caribbean islands Catalinita and Saona.
After
leaving Bayahibe we proceed along the coastline of the National Park until
we get to the rocks of
the Penón, which were once home of the Tainos. If we have luck we can see the
iguanas living there, which could be 2 ft
long.
On
the way to the " Channel " we stop off at the "Piscina Natural", which means
"natural swimming pool", and is well known for the large
starfish. The water is
shallow, even far off the beach, you always can touch bottom, the colors of
the water are fascinating turkeys and blue.
The
boat then goes through the channel in between Saona and the mainland where
you will be able to observe frigate birds and pelicans nesting in the
mangroves. Sometimes
you can see nurse sharks and big stingrays between the mangroves. Further
on in the channel we reach a sand bank, where we have a glass of champagne to
welcome the Atlantic which meets here the Caribbean Sea.
Then
we visit the uninhabited island Catalinita which is untouched from tourism, a
„Robinson Crusoe Island“. On
the small sandy beach of the island there are thousands of shells. In the
shallow water we will see crayfish and shrimps.
This
is followed by a chance to snorkel
in the coral gardens near Catalinita. Between corals, giant sponges and
sea fans we will observe colorful
Caribbean fish.
We
then take you to
the lovely beaches on Saona,
where buffet lunch is provided on the beach. After lunch you can relax on
the beach, swim or enjoy a drink.
The
number of participants on this excursion is limited to a maximum of 14
person
What
you should bring:

lotion, towel, shoes for the beach, a T-shirt for sun protection if you
